Chelegance MC-750
$$···
| Frequency | 7 - 50 MHz (40 m through 6 m): a quarter-wave on 20-6 m with the whip alone, plus 40 m using the included loading coil |
| Bands | 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, 10m, 6m |
| Power | Rated up to 100 W. A portable quarter-wave vertical; stay within the rating. |
| Modes | portable quarter-wave vertical ground-plane (telescoping whip with ground spike and radials) |
| feed | SO-239 on the ground-spike base (50 ohm) |
| radials | Four jacks for the four included 11.48 ft (3.5 m) counterpoise radials |
| radiator | 5.6 m (17 ft) stainless telescoping whip with laser-engraved frequency markings; a 7 MHz coil is included for 40 m |
| power req | Passive antenna; no power. Tuner-free on 20-6 m in normal use (set the whip to the engraved marking); the coil adds 40 m. |
An efficient, fuss-free field vertical: a full-height 17-foot whip makes it a real quarter-wave on 20-6 m (more efficient than a short loaded whip), it needs no tuner there, and the engraved markings make band changes quick and repeatable. The kit includes everything - spike base, radials, 40 m coil and bag - sets up in minutes with no tools, and handles a full 100 watts. A deserved POTA/SOTA favorite.
It is a ground-mounted vertical, so it needs the radials laid out and a clear spot to plant the spike, and at 17 feet the whip is tall to deploy in wind. The 40 m band needs the add-on coil, 80/160 m are not covered, and like any vertical it hears more noise than a horizontal wire up high.
The Chelegance MC-750 is an efficient, quick-deploying portable quarter-wave HF vertical (40-6 m) with engraved whip markings and a complete spike-and-radials kit - one of the best field verticals for POTA/SOTA and travel, tuner-free on 20-6 m. Operators who want 80/160 m or an all-in-one no-radial system look at modular wire systems instead.
The Chelegance MC-750 (also branded JNCRadio) is a portable quarter-wave HF vertical that has become a favorite for Parks on the Air, Summits on the Air and travel. Unlike the short loaded whips many portable antennas use, it deploys a full 17-foot (5.6 m) stainless telescoping whip, which makes it a true quarter-wave on 20 through 6 meters - and a real quarter-wave is more efficient than a heavily shortened antenna. For those bands you need no tuner: you just extend the whip to the laser-engraved marking for your frequency.
It is a complete, self-contained kit. The base has a built-in ground spike that you push into the soil, an SO-239 for the coax, and jacks for the four included 11.48-foot radials that form the ground plane. An included 7 MHz loading coil adds the 40-meter band, so overall it covers 40 through 6 meters (7-50 MHz). Everything - whip, base, coil, radials - packs into a carry bag, and it goes up in minutes with no tools.
The trade-offs are those of a ground-mounted vertical: you need a clear spot to plant the spike and room to spread the radials, the 17-foot whip is tall to manage in wind, and the lowest bands (80/160 m) are not covered (40 m needs the coil). Like any vertical it also tends to hear more local noise than a high horizontal wire. It sells for around $130-160.
It competes with other take-along verticals such as the Wolf River Coils Silver Bullet 1000 and the modular Chameleon MPAS Lite, trading their tuner-and-coil flexibility for full-height quarter-wave efficiency on the higher bands.
