Strengths

The iconic CB fiberglass antenna. 4-foot top-loaded 5/8 wave with patented tunable tip for easy SWR adjustment. 900W. Glass fiber reinforced shaft with heavy insulated copper coil. 3/8-24 base. USA made with 5-year warranty. The FS-4 is the most recommended mid-size CB antenna, over 130 five-star reviews at major retailers.

Weaknesses

A 4-foot antenna is still a compromise vs. a full 102-inch whip. Top-loaded design has inherent losses. Needs a proper ground plane (metal vehicle body). Not weatherproof at the tip; water can enter the tunable tip mechanism over time.

Verdict

A standard 4-foot CB fiberglass antenna. For a quality mid-size fiberglass CB antenna that tunes easily and lasts, the Firestik FS-4 is a common choice: USA-made, well-supported, and proven, with an easy tunable tip.

The Firestik FS-4 is a classic four-foot fiberglass CB antenna, one of the most recognizable mobile whips on the 27 MHz Citizens Band. It is a top-loaded helically-wound fiberglass stick rated to handle up to 900 watts, with a tunable tip that lets you trim the antenna's resonance for the lowest SWR right where it is mounted, which is the key to getting a CB antenna working properly on a particular vehicle.

Firestik built its reputation on these tough, USA-made fiberglass whips, and the FS-4 is a staple for trucks, off-road rigs, and any vehicle where a flexible four-foot antenna is a practical size. At four feet it is a sensible compromise: longer and more efficient than a stubby antenna but short enough to clear most obstacles, and the fiberglass construction shrugs off branches and weather. Like all mobile whips it works against the vehicle body and rewards a solid ground and good coax.

It is a current product. The Wilson fiberglass whips such as the Wilson Silver Load are direct competitors, and for a base-loaded metal whip the Wilson 1000 is the high-performance alternative.
