Entry 14-bit SDR covering 1 kHz-2 GHz continuously
Up to 10 MHz of visible spectrum
11 automatically switched band-pass filters
Adjustable-gain LNA and 0.5 ppm TCXO
4.7 V bias-tee for powering an LNA/active antenna
Free SDRuno software (Windows/Mac/Linux)
Strengths
Huge coverage and good dynamic range for the price; auto band filters; bias-tee for active antennas; great starter SDR.
Weaknesses
Receive only; single antenna port; superseded by the RSP1B; needs a PC.
Verdict
The value benchmark SDR - the RSP1A gives 1 kHz-2 GHz 14-bit reception with band filters and a bias-tee for around a hundred dollars.
The SDRplay RSP1A is an entry 14-bit SDR receiver covering 1 kHz-2 GHz continuously with up to 10 MHz of visible spectrum, 11 auto-switched band filters, an adjustable LNA, a 0.5 ppm TCXO and a 4.7 V bias-tee for active antennas. It is the value benchmark starter SDR.
Step up to the SDRplay RSPdx, or add an upconverter to an RTL-SDR instead.
