SDRplay's best single-tuner receiver. HDR mode helps LF/MW DXing, with 3 antenna inputs (switch without re-cabling), 12 preselect filters, and notch filters on all inputs. It has sync AM, a calibrated S-meter (IARU), 16 virtual receivers, a remote server, a 24 MHz clock input for a GPSDO, and a 500 kHz LPF for VLF/LF, in a steel case.
Receive only. $235 (the RSP1B is $133 for a single antenna). USB 2.0. The USB-B cable is not included. A single tuner (the RSPduo has dual). HDR mode is limited to below 2 MHz. Some third-party software is not yet R2 compatible.
A receiver aimed at serious DXers. The RSPdx-R2 is SDRplay's answer for listeners who need HDR mode for LF/MW, 3 switchable antennas, 12 preselect filters, sync AM, and calibrated measurements. The R2 revision improves the RSPdx's LF/MW performance. If you DX below 2 MHz, it is a strong choice; if you do not need HDR or 3 antennas, the RSP1B at $133 covers the same frequencies.
The SDRplay RSPdx-R2 is the HF specialist of SDRplay's receive-only family. Like its siblings it covers 1 kHz to 2 GHz with a 14-bit converter, but it is tuned for performance at the low end of the spectrum, with extra filtering and a dedicated HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode for the demanding conditions below 2 MHz where strong broadcast stations can overwhelm lesser receivers. It does not transmit.
The 'R2' is a 2024 refresh of the original RSPdx, prompted partly by parts-supply changes and bringing improved noise and dynamic-range performance below 2 MHz plus an added low-pass filter for the very low frequencies. It offers three antenna ports (two SMA connectors covering the full range and a BNC port limited to 200 MHz) along with an external clock input. The HDR mode works within specific preset bands rather than tuning freely, which is a minor operational quirk to learn.
It is a current product and the SDRplay to pick if longwave, mediumwave, and the lower shortwave bands are your focus. The RSP1B is the simpler entry model, while the RSPduo trades the HDR focus for a second independent tuner.
