True I/Q SDR front end - best-in-class digital decode in simulcast/weak-signal areas Huge mode/trunking coverage: P25 P1/P2, X2-TDMA, DMR, NXDN, EDACS ProVoice, Motorola/EDACS/LTR Direct Ethernet for network streaming and remote control Large 3.5-inch fully customizable color display Built-in HomePatrol US/Canada database; location-based scanning Recording and replay to microSD; free Sentinel updates Installs as a base station or in a vehicle
Strengths

The base/mobile counterpart to the SDS100, with the same superb True I/Q decode plus a big 3.5-inch display and - uniquely useful - direct Ethernet for streaming audio and full remote control over your network. Mode and trunking coverage is comprehensive, and the HomePatrol database makes it easy to live with.

Weaknesses

Premium price, and like the handheld some digital modes are paid upgrades. It is a desktop/mobile unit (no battery), the interface has a learning curve, and it cannot (legally) decode encrypted systems.

Verdict

The Uniden SDS200 is the best base/mobile digital scanner for difficult P25 areas, and its Ethernet streaming/remote control make it a superb home-monitoring hub. The obvious desktop partner to the SDS100.

The Uniden SDS200 is the base and mobile sibling of the SDS100, and it shares the feature that matters most: a True I/Q software-defined front end that delivers the best digital decode in the business when systems go simulcast or signals get weak. To that it adds a big 3.5-inch fully customizable color display and, distinctively, direct Ethernet - so you can stream its audio and remotely control it across your home network, which makes it a superb central monitoring hub.

Trunking and mode coverage is exhaustive: P25 Phase I and II, X2-TDMA, Motorola, EDACS, LTR, plus DMR in its many flavors, NXDN and EDACS ProVoice. The HomePatrol database and Sentinel software keep it current and make programming a matter of telling it where you are.

As with the handheld, the price is premium and some modes are paid add-ons; it is a powered desktop/mobile unit with no battery, and the menus reward study. But for a home or vehicle digital scanner in a tough RF environment, nothing beats it. Compare it with the handheld SDS100 and the database-driven BCD536HP.
