A strong, flexible no-drill lip mount: three-axis adjustment makes it easy to get the antenna truly vertical on any hatch or trunk lip, four set screws give a firm grip (and ground) even for tall whips up to 70 inches, and the small satin-black footprint with a paint-protecting gasket looks tidy. Being coax-free lets you choose your own quality feedline.
It ships without coax, so you must add and route your own cable and connector, and like any lip mount it grounds through the clamp rather than a drilled hole. Set screws can mark the lip edge over time, and very heavy antennas still belong on a drilled NMO mount.
The Comet RS-730 is a heavy-duty, highly adjustable no-drill lip mount that takes tall whips up to 70 inches - the one to get when you want to supply your own coax. For a pre-wired mount, the Diamond K400 includes the cable.
The Comet RS-730 is a heavy-duty, highly adjustable no-drill lip mount - the kind that clamps onto the edge of a hatch, tailgate, trunk lid or van door and holds your antenna without drilling a hole. Its standout is flexibility: it adjusts in three planes, so no matter how the lip is angled you can bring the antenna dead vertical. Four large set screws clamp from the underside for a firm hold and a solid ground, and it is rated to carry antennas up to 70 inches and 1 pound - tall whips included.
It is built to be unobtrusive and gentle on the vehicle: a compact 3.4 x 1.25-inch footprint, a satin-black finish, and a soft plastic gasket that protects the paint where it clamps. Notably, it is supplied without coax, which lets you choose and route your own quality feedline and connector to suit the install.
The trade-offs are that you supply the cable, grounding is through the clamp rather than a drilled hole, and the set screws can mark the lip edge over time; the heaviest antennas are still best on a drilled NMO mount. For a strong, adjustable, bring-your-own-coax lip mount, though, it is excellent. Compare it with the pre-wired Diamond K400 and K412 lip mounts.
