A high-power 10-meter mobile (20W AM / 100W SSB) with AM/USB/LSB, a 5-digit frequency display, a large lit meter, variable power and RF gain, an automatic SWR circuit, a clarifier, and variable talkback. Popular with operators who want serious power on 10 meters.
A 10-meter amateur radio, so an FCC ham license is required (and it is not legal on the CB band). No FM. Echo and talkback are style features, not communication aids. Heavy for a mobile. The 100W SSB rating is peak.
A high-power 10-meter mobile. The DX-94HP is a 100W-SSB 10-meter radio styled like a CB, aimed at operators who want maximum power and the full set of talkback and echo features. It needs a ham license and is not a CB-band radio, despite often being sold alongside CB gear.
The Galaxy DX-94HP is frequently shelved alongside CB radios, but it is important to be clear: it is not a CB. It is a 10-meter amateur radio, and the 'HP' stands for high power. It transmits on the 28 MHz amateur band (not the 27 MHz CB band) and putting it on the air legally requires an FCC amateur radio license. It is emphatically not a license-free radio.
The power figures make the distinction obvious. Where a legal CB is capped at 4 watts AM, the DX-94HP is rated around 20 watts AM and well over 100 watts on single sideband from its bank of MOSFET output transistors, many times the CB limit. It carries Galaxy's signature styling: a frequency counter, illuminated meter, variable talkback, echo, and roger beep. Like many such radios it is widely (and illegally) modified to operate as a high-power 'export' CB, which is a serious FCC violation.
Within Galaxy's range it sits among the high-power 10-meter radios rather than the legal CBs. The base-station Galaxy DX-2517 is the 10-meter desk equivalent, while the Galaxy DX-959 is the company's legal, license-free SSB CB.
